So what are the early signs of a cheating spouse?

• Lies concealing or outright lying about expenses and finances(Financial infidelity)
• Drastic and inexplicable changes in sexual appetite or even physical affection like hugs, kisses or holding hands (See "Sexless marriage")
• You notice that your spouse seems to use any excuse to mention the name of a particular member of the opposite sex (this is often a hallmark of an emotional affair)
• Spouse starts to come home from work later and later or not at all
• Spouse displays sudden and unexpected changes (improvements) in personal grooming or fashion
• Your spouse suddenly and inexplicably begins to accuse you of infidelity
• You notice a new pattern of extended absences preceded by seemingly unreasonable conflict or unreasonably escalated conflict.

If you look closely at the list above, you'll notice the emphasis on sudden and/or unexplained changes in what you'd usually expect from your spouse. The list above will not be useful to you unless you are already a student of your spouse's behavior, and know their established patterns.

Not every one of the warning signs listed above should raise your alarm. Instead, I would recommend that you be wary when you notice two or three of these warning signs in your marriage. In any case, the most serious(and perhaps, obvious) sign of trouble in your marriage is if you notice a habit of extended absences from home by your spouse.
